Direct Flights to Kauai#A465C5
United Airlines offers direct flights to Kauai from "LAX"
on the west coast, and more airlines may start offering the service
at some point. You will know direct flights to Kauai if they go
straight to Lihue airport (airport
code LIH), Kauai's major airport,
which is also serviced by Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines with convenient
departures and arrivals throughout the day. There are two other
airports on Kauai but neither is big enough for these commercial
airliners. They are:
Port Allen Airport (PAK)
Princeville Airport (HPV)
Kauai is also the home the the Grand
Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea
Canyon. This is a site best seen with
a helicopter tour but you can also hike it, and it's as spectacular
as the Grand Canyon in Arizona. A site not to be missed when visiting
Kauai.
Kauai also has the distinction of having
the wettest spot in the world. On the windward slopes of Waialeale,
rain fall has been reported in excess of 500 inches of rain per
year. It's hard to visualize 500 inches so try it this way. 500
inches is 41.5 feet of water. Or try a three story building at
about 50 ft. No matter how you cut it, that's a lot of water to
fall from the sky.
Kauai, the Garden Isle is so full of
life, beauty and remains so unspoiled.
Here you will find plant species found no where else in the world
and scenery unmatched by anything worldly. Help us keep Kauai
the emerald gem it is in the middle of the Pacific. Please don't
litter and use the trash containers found throughout the island.
Mahalo!,
